What is a Skin Excision?
A skin excision is a minor surgical procedure performed to remove a benign or malignant lesion, such as a mole, cyst, lipoma, or cancer, from the skin. This procedure is often used to treat conditions that are benign, precancerous, or cancerous.
During a skin excision, the area is numbed with a local anesthetic to ensure comfort. The lesion is carefully removed along with a small margin of healthy tissue, if necessary, to ensure complete excision. The wound is then closed with sutures and covered with a dressing to promote healing. Sutures will typically remain from 7-14 days depending on the location.
Skin excisions are typically performed in-office by a dermatologist and are designed to provide both functional and cosmetic results. The excised tissue may be sent for pathological evaluation to confirm the diagnosis.
Our team is dedicated to ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for all patients, providing personalized care throughout the entire process.
